YFU Switzerland

Exchange student

Hallo Leute, I find the next text in portuguese on the internet and I’d like to share in, because is really good haha

„To be an exchange student is to be born again, it’s to begin everything from zero. It’s to miss something or someone. It’s to learn taking care of yourself when no one can be there with you. It’s to be hungry and to eat a lot. It’s to walk through the unbelieveble, to know the unknown.

To be an exchange student is to create you and your country. It’s to make any exchanger’s meeting a party. it’s to be always without money and to spend money on useless things. It’s to pass the night counting the cents to see if you can hang out. It’s to get cold and get hot. it’s to be a reason of jokes and to tell jokes.

To be an exchange students is to wear ridiculous clothes, I am a foreigner, anywazys. It’s to sham as you don’t understand the language. but also act as you understand everything for your „new friends“. It’s to have  crazy stories to tell. it’s to think that just you are normal and that the world belongs to you.

To be an exchange student is to wish knowing the world with a backpack. it’s to miss the most stupid things, the most simple foods, the most loved people. it’s to cry a entire day and to laugh without stoping. It’s to hear that you dont‘ go out and when you go out to hear that you go out too much. it’s to get fat. get skin, suffer and grow up.

To be an exchange student is to learn, because you make mistakes and to try getting better with your weak sides. It’s, in a moment to want to go back home and five minutes later realize that you are home. It’s to be an exchange student, because just who is or was it, know what exchange means.“

The winter is coming

Yes, it’s coming! And faster than I was wondering. Two importants things about the winter here in Switzerland:

First: It’s extremely cold ( for me, a brasilian boy who his smallest temperature in Brazil is 19 degrees). I thought that it was be worse, but I don’t know how, I am getting it along really good. It’s just autumm, I think in the winter I’ll get a little bit crazy or something… -10, -15 degrees :/ is too cold in my opinion. However I’m good with the cold now, warm coat and stuffs.

and the second thing is… SNOW! That’s my first year that I have snow, the first time that I see snow. This is really perfect. That will be my first christmas with snow! Well, in Brazil we have christmas a little bit like the christmas in Europe, because of our portuguese colonization bla, bla, bla. BUT… in christmas time, in Brazil is a freaking hot summer. Now I’ll have a christmas with snow. Man, you have no ideia how cool is this for me.

Switzerland is realizing part of my hopes and dreams, and this is just the beginning, imagine in the end…. !!!!!

Why Switzerland?

That is one of the questions that I always hear. Everyone wants a reason why I chose here to do my exchange. But actually, I don’t have a reason. Well, I chose here because it was between the options that the representant of YFU in Brazil gave me. To be honest, I’ve never even thought about Switzerland as a possible place to do exchange. Well, I haven’t wanted a country whose english is the oficial language. I wanted to learn another language because I already can speak english (even though my english is a little poor). So I thought a lot about learn french. I thought, actually I think french a really beautiful language and it’d be cool to know it. But there was a problem… unfortunately or fortunately to do exchange with YFU to a country that speak french we ( future exchange students) need to have 2 years of french classes (this is a thing I don’t understand, because for exemple german is more dificult than french and I could come to here with one month of german class) and I… well, I had nothing. Thereby, I looked for another good places to do exchange and one of these places were Switzerland and Holland, but my mother thinks that Holland is too open (hahaha).

I’m just here for 2 months, but I am sure that that was the best choise I could’ve made it, really! I don’t know if it’s because I had lucky or something, but Switzerland is a geil ( it’s a slang in german and I have no ideia how to translate it, but means that something is really really cool) country. People are very helpful and really nice with me. I had lucky with my host familiy. They are really the best. I have a good classe in my school with cool colleagues. I also have chances to learn french since it’s also one of the four oficial languages here, german (I live in this part), french, italian and romansh. The country is beautiful, a lot of moutains and so many cows (really! there’s so much and every cow has a bell that is really annoying). Another thing really good here is: YFU here is really really cool. We have campings and stuffs and almost all the volunteers are young and have done an exchange. this make the relation better, because they can understand us better than anothers.

So I tell you: If you are thinking of doing an exchange you should put Switzerland in your firsts places!

Introdiction – 1st post

Hey There,

I am Joao, I’m 17 years old and I am from Brazil, but now I’m in an exchange year in Switzerland. As I said, I am brazilian. I speak portuguese (althoug a lot of people think that in Brazil we speak spanish or brazilian…), but I will write here in english because I want this blog to be international (people from Brasil that don’t speak english can use the google translate. It is really good for this). I want to write here things that I think interessant and funny about the swiss life and also things that can happen in the life of an exchange student. I am a little bit busy but I pretend to post here 2 or 3 times for month. Another thing that you guys have to know about me: my english isn’t perfect, so probably it will be some mistakes like with the grammar or with words, so I  ask you something : Just ignore it ( but when you don’t understand you can write a comment asking what I mean with some phrase). I will do my best to not make many mistakes.

Well, I don’t have so much things to write here today, but soon I will write a real post (probably tomorrow because I am on vacations). I don’t know the subject of the next post, but probably will be interessant (well, I hope :D) so… you will like to read it.
